In 2024, UNODC intensified its partnership with Jordan to strengthen institutional capacities, enhance justice and security responses, and address transnational organized crime, drug trafficking, and corruption, while promoting human rights and sustainable development under the Regional Framework for the Arab States (2023–2028).
Key Highlights and Achievements:
- Border Management & Crime Prevention:
- 9 operation rooms established across border crossings and Amman.
- 267 officers trained on border security, trafficking, anti-money laundering, and counterterrorism.
- Equipment and technical support provided to 8 border points.
- Strengthened cross-border cooperation through the Passenger and Cargo Control Programme (PCCP).
- Drug Control & Health:
- Comprehensive support to the National Drug Treatment Center, including medical supplies and training.
- Expanded Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT) services in prisons and the community through regional knowledge exchange and MENAHRA training.
- Active participation in revising the national drug strategy and treatment protocol.
- Anti-Trafficking Efforts:
- Supported the launch of Jordan’s National Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy (2024–2027).
- Trained frontline officers and supported Jordan’s Peace Operations Training Center in delivering TiP/SoM modules in Arabic.
- Delivered advanced investigations training under EU-supported border security efforts.
- Anti-Corruption & Financial Crime:
- Delivered regional training on financial crime and terrorism financing.
- Hosted the MENAFATF Strategic Analysis Course for Financial Intelligence Units in Amman.
- Counter-Terrorism:
- Strengthened legal and inter-agency cooperation via regional workshops on mutual legal assistance and terrorism-related case handling.
- Enhanced Jordan’s capacities to detect, investigate, and prosecute terrorism offences.
