Climate Change and Gender-Based Violence in Jordan

 While everyone everywhere is subject to the effects of climate change, marginalized groups, like women and girls face heightened risks. At the same time, women and girls are effective and powerful leaders and change-makers for climate adaptation and mitigation if societies give them the space to do so. 

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, and under the global theme for this year “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, UNFPA in collaboration with the Information and Research Center – King Hussein Foundation and Sama Consulting are launching this research brief which aims to highlight the impact of climate change on women and girls in Jordan with a particular focus on gender-based violence (GBV). The brief outlines the situation of climate change in Jordan, its impacts on women and girls, and highlights the contribution of women and girls in Jordan who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future for all.
