The Imperial Highnesses and the Ambassador of Japan to Jordan meet children engaged in learning, music, art and play in a community-based centre in East Amman.
Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado and Her Imperial Highness Princess Tsuguko of Takamado made a special visit to a UNICEF-supported Makani (‘My Space’) centre in East Amman during their visit to Jordan to meet children, young people and parents benefiting from learning support, skills building and activities including music and art.
The community centre, run by UNICEF’s partner East Amman Charity, is one of 136 Makani centres established across Jordan, offering multiple services to over 130,000 children every year.
During the visit, the members of the Imperial Family were joined by His Excellency Mr. Jiro Okuyama, Ambassador of Japan to Jordan, and Mr. Philippe Duamelle, UNICEF Representative to Jordan.
During their visit, the Princesses joined children in a Maths class as part of the Makani Programme’s learning support service and met adolescent girls and boys growing their digital skills in the computer lab.
In the art class, the girls’ and boy’s talents were on display as they proudly shared their work – including their latest project to promote peace, tolerance and respect among people of the world.
In the music room, the visitors were treated to an inspiring performance in Arabic and Japanese, before joining children enjoying sports activities and playtime.
The visit also included a discussion with mothers and their young children in the Early Childhood Development class where positive parenting techniques help empower parents and caregivers to support their children to develop in a safe and nurturing environment.
The Government of Japan is a long and valued supporter of UNICEF in Jordan, supporting its work in refugee camps and host communities to help children survive and thrive.
